We recently completed a 105,014 sf warehouse in Anaheim for one of our valued clients, Rexford Industrial. The tenant improvements include a 7,665 sf office component incorporating high-quality materials and design elements. The office space showcases a gorgeous TerraMai staircase and platform, along with concrete Ober wall panels from France.

We are excited to share John Coronel's promotion to Vice President. John has been a loyal and dedicated employee of Millie and Severson for more than 28 years. He is well-known and respected by everyone in our industry, has built solid relationships with many numerous long-term clients and subcontractors, and has provided outstanding leadership on many of our most challenging projects. He has been an excellent leader and mentor in the company, and we are excited to have John as an integral member of Millie and Severson for many more years.

We are pleased to announce Michael Swanberg's promotion to Vice President. Michael has been a key contributor to Millie and Severson's success for more than eight years - where he has not only delivered outstanding project management to our most valued clients, but has also been one of the most influential mentors to our rising project management staff. He is one of the great leaders in our company and is highly respected by our clients and subcontractor partners alike. We look forward to Michael’s leadership for many years to come. 

Congratulations Mark Baranick on your recent promotion to Vice President! Mark has been an integral part of Millie and Severson’s Business Development team for the last 7 years, providing proven leadership on several project opportunities and fostering strong relationships with many new clients. Mark’s strong communication skills, deep understanding of market dynamics and sound strategic thinking has helped Millie and Severson grow over the years, and we look forward to his continued contribution for years to come.

Millie and Severson had a great time at the 2024 Associated Schools of Construction Region 6 + 7 student competitions this past weekend. We hosted an ice cream social, gathered our divisions together for a team dinner, met many amazing students, and are so thankful to have had the opportunity to mentor students from University of California, Davis.

After nearly 47 years as a Foreman for Millie and Severson, Lupe Tobias is officially retired. Lupe’s impressive resume includes 14 years at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital Whittier and 7 years at Good Samaritan Hospital, and he is most proud of the fact that he had ZERO injuries during the span of his almost 47-year career. His colleagues have characterized him as ‘a pleasure to work with’ and ‘the nicest person you will ever meet.’ Congratulations Lupe on a well-deserved retirement…one he hopes involves lots of traveling!

Our NorCal elves (Pleasanton and Sacramento offices, along with their families and kids) worked hard putting together 80 care kits 🎁 to donate to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. The kits, which include Infant Comfort, Caregiver Comfort, Concussion, Sensory, and Creativity kits, help patients and patients’ families while they are staying in the hospital over the holidays.

Our Northern California offices started the holiday season off right with a night full of bowling🎳, bocce ball, cornhole, and fun🎉! 

We are continuing to make progress on Overton Moore Properties' LA Airport Industrial project. The 141,360 sf concrete tilt-up, designed by HPA Architecture, features rooftop parking and is centrally located to LAX.

Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement Bruce Mapes! For the last 23 years Bruce has worked on many projects, including the 22-building Golden Springs Development, helping to ‘cement’ the future for Millie and Severson. We want to wish you well and hope you enjoy your extended time off.

Millie and Severson is excited to congratulate Janelle Layman, Project Manager, for being selected for the 2023 NAIOP SoCal Chapter Young Professionals Group. Janelle will spend the next year in an intensive professional development and leadership program designed to connect with other YPG participants to further develop their skills and relationships in the AEC community. We wish Janelle great success as she embarks on this unique program!

Millie and Severson's President Ben Severson and Senior Vice President John Grossman joined the Coronado St. Watch Party last week with Rexford Industrial's Co-Chief Executive Officer Howard Schwimmer. We are grateful for our relationship with Rexford and appreciate the trust they have instilled with us.

Progress is underway, with panel lifting just around the corner, on the five industrial buildings at the new Cochrane Technology center in Morgan Hill, CA.

Congratulations to Millie and Severson, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Torrance Memorial Medical Center’s medical office building for being recognized by NAIOP SoCal Chapter as ‘Office Project of the Year’. We want to thank the teams at Cedars-Sinai and Torrance Memorial for our continued relationship and entrusting us with their medical office build. 

This state-of-the-art medical office building, located in El Segundo, is the first joint venture between Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Torrance Memorial Medical Center. The project is designed as a comprehensive medical facility that includes primary care physician’s suites, Gastroenterology, Pediatrics, Imaging Suite with CT and Ultrasound, Endoscopy Clinic built to OSHPD 3 specifications and a much welcomed urgent care facility.

The structural steel at the Freed Center for Leadership and Service at Vanguard University of Southern California from the front 2-story area and main entry to the gym, to the last truss is complete. Columns have been put in place to finish off the last section of the gym and Millie and Severson has begun setting steel for the 3-story section of the building as well as placed the decking on the roof of the gym.

Congratulations to Millie and Severson, Real Estate Development Associates, LLC, and Clarion Partners LLC's Uline Build-to-Suit for being recognized by NAIOP SoCal Chapter as 2023 ‘Industrial Project of the Year’. We want to thank the teams at REDA and Clarion for our continued relationship, as well as Uline for entrusting us with their warehouse build. 

This state-of-the-art logistics center encompassed 1.2 million square feet of warehouse and office space. Features include meandering walking trails around the property, acres of turf for company functions, fully conditioned office space and warehouse, as well as a spacious gym and beautiful dining area. 

In our most recent partnership with Bridge Industrial, we broke ground on a 209,944 sf industrial core + shell warehouse with spec TI and two mezzanines in Vernon, CA.

After a wonderful 13 years with Millie and Severson, Jan Nece, our devoted Human Resources Manager, is retiring. As we have substantially grown over these past 13 years, we thank Jan for all of her resourcefulness and dedication in helping us move forward as an industry leader. We wish her much luck and success in her new, relaxed life!

In honor of National Safety Stand-Down week, Millie and Severson invited Palmer Safety to our jobsite in Ontario, CA to demonstrate fall prevention. The event offers Millie and Severson’s safety department, lead by Ron Galvan Jr, CHST, STS, CSMP, ASHM, QCM, the opportunity to talk to staff about fall hazards, and reinforce the importance of fall prevention in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries on construction projects.

Currently, 10.9% of the construction workforce is women. At Millie and Severson we are proud to say 22.8% of our workforce is women - and we continue to grow that number. While this week has been deemed #womeninconstruction week, and this day #internationalwomensday, we make sure to celebrate all of the women on our team, from interns, to project managers, to executives, every day of the year. Here are just a handful of the many amazing, talented women we have!

Millie and Severson is excited to be working with Trammell Crow Company on the Cochrane Technology Center in Morgan Hill, CA. The 500,000 sf Class A business park designed by HPA Architecture and Kier & Wright will include five industrial buildings on a 30-acre site, located within minutes of San Jose.

Congratulations to Overton Moore Properties' Avion Burbank which has recently earned LEED Gold certification – Building Design and Construction: Core and Shell Development – by fulfilling the requirements set by the U.S. Green Building Council. Millie and Severson is proud to have been the General Contractor on the 1 million+ sf creative office/industrial park, including 17 buildings over 60 acres.

Congratulations to Santa Clara University for taking home the sledgehammer in the 2nd Annual NAIOP Silicon Valley University Case Study Challenge against Menlo College and San Jose State University! Millie and Severson’s David Bayliss and Matt Parkins, Esq., JD, MBA acted as the General Contractor Industry Resource for all the teams who were tasked with evaluating a development site and then devising a complete proposal - which included a proforma with construction costs and schedule, as well as a sample design for a ground-up development based on current market conditions.

We are making great progress on Ontario Ranch Business Park (ORBP) in Ontario, CA. The project for Real Estate Development Associates, LLC and Clarion Partners LLC consists of 7 buildings totaling 1,677,272 sf, including Building 1 which is a 1.1 million sf distribution center for The Home Depot.

We enjoyed a day at the range for the 5th Annual Scouting Clays Shoot-Out, hosted by David Smith and Smith and Severson. The event benefits over 30,000 youth served by the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Thank you to all who participated!

We were honored to be included in the Freed Center groundbreaking event at Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, CA. The ceremony included many emotional speeches from staff, students and City of Costa Mesa officials, and a message from Ms. Evelyn Freed - who provided the lead gift for the new 61,000 sf, state-of-the-art athletics and learning facility being built by Millie and Severson. 

Millie and Severson recently broke ground and has started grading on Core5 Industrial Partners, LLC's Rider Business Center at 3120 Wilson Avenue, Perris, CA, located less than 2 miles from the I-215 freeway. The 248,483 square foot freestanding warehouse designed by Herdman Architecture + Design, Inc. sits on 11.18 acres.

Our team enjoyed an evening networking with industry leaders last week at NAIOP SoCal Chapter's 30th Anniversary, Star Wars-themed, Night at the Fights event. In addition to attending, Millie and Severson showed their support as one of the Grand Prize Sponsors.

Millie and Severson hit the greens at the Mission Viejo Country Club to participate in the 2022 OC Charity Classic Golf Tournament, benefiting Orange County Rescue Mission & Links Players Southern California. Out of 30+ teams, two of ours came in 2nd and 3rd!

Millie and Severson continues to build our relationship with Seefried Industrial Properties, Inc. and Tim Hoskins, Construction Manager – Amazon – West, with our most recent warehouse completion in Turlock, CA. Designed by Ware Malcomb, the 1,080,000 sf Amazon distribution center officially launched this past Sunday. 

We climbed another 10 spots in the San Francisco Business Times’ annual ranking of Greater Bay Area General Contractors, coming in at #38. When we planted our flag here 7 years ago, we knew we would build great things for our clients. It’s humbling and gratifying to see how that vision has propelled us to the top of the pack in the Bay Area.

Millie and Severson has been ranked number 180 in this year’s ENR Top 400 General Contractors, moving us into the Top 200 for the first time. Many thanks to our incredible employees, clients and trade partners for getting us here. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together next!

Bridge Industrial has selected us to build their latest development – Bridge Point South Bay VII. Designed by Herdman Architecture + Design, Inc., the new development will bring a state-of-the-art, high image Distribution Warehouse with major visibility to the South Bay, for just-in-time and last mile e-commerce tenants.

We have lifted panels at Overton Moore Properties’ Pacific Commons South in Fremont, CA. This final phase consists of 2 buildings and completes the 3-phase, 9 building, 1.5M sf project. Due to the current lead time for the typical panelized roof system, OMP, Millie and Severson, and the design team including HPA Architecture Ltd, Darin Fong and Associates, Inc. , and JD2, INC. came up with a wide flange metal deck option for this phase.

Excited to be lifting panels for Kearny Real Estate’s new Torrance Industrial Exchange. The two-building development will bring last mile distribution options to the South Bay, with a combined 427,604 sf on 21 acres with nearby access to LAX and the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

Very proud that our construction of Laserfiche’s new corporate headquarters was a finalist in the very first NAIOP SoCal Awards in the Best Office Project category. Congratulations to the entire project team including Urbana Development, studio one eleven, the City of Long Beach and the County of Los Angeles.

We are pleased to announce that we’ve just completed construction of Bridge Industrial’s new development – Bridge Point IV in Santa Fe Springs. The 150,548 sf facility was designed by Herdman Architecture + Design, Inc. and features a façade composed of a mixture of glass storefront and painted concrete panels with the entrance being wrapped with ornamental iron work, giving this building a unique look.

Millie and Severson is excited to announce that we have been selected to build Vanguard University of Southern California’s new athletics and learning facility – the Freed Center for Leadership + Service – as part of the university’s 30-year masterplan. The new 61,000-sf, three-story facility will seat up to 1,910 people for athletic events, more than double the previous capacity. It will also feature locker rooms, a weight room, athletics training room and serve as the home to the kinesiology department, including department offices, laboratories and four new general classrooms.

We are proud to be part of such a stellar and collaborative team including Urbana Development, studio one eleven, the City of Long Beach and the County of Los Angeles. The project has already been recognized by the Los Angeles Business Journal as a Best Headquarters project and is also a finalist for the first NAIOP SoCal Chapter Awards in the same category.

We were so happy to help REDA host the Industrial Bus Tour as part of this year’s NAIOP I.CON West at their build-to-suit for Uline in Ontario. More than 50 brokers visited the site and were treated to a tour of the +1.2 million square foot logistics center.

We’ve been lifting panels this week at Lincoln Property Company’s latest development, Kearny Mesa Logistics Center in San Diego. The 299,381 sf logistics warehouse/distribution facility is in San Diego’s most centrally located submarket.
