Overview
Millie and Severson is a leading general contractor focusing on industrial, office, educational, institutional, and medical projects. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller.
Primary Duties + Responsibilities
- Supervise the accounting, cost and payroll department to ensure compliance with department procedures;
- Develop continuous process improvement in the accounting and payroll department;
- Prepare quarterly financial statements for all entities and consolidated group statement;
- Oversee the company’s cash management process including reviewing all company disbursements;
- Coordinate the preparation of annual financial review and tax return with outside CPA firm;
- Preparation of work papers supporting the annual tax return;
- Serve as the primary contact for corporate insurance renewals of property, liability, and workers compensation which is inclusive of managing all related insurance audits;
- Oversee the cash management process/audits/improvements and LOC renewals
- Prepare and submit annual property 571L statements
- Attend meetings and prepare schedules for annual company valuation
- Provide and review supporting schedules, as needed, for 401k and ESSOP audits
- Review subcontractor financials in tandem with Company Subcontractor Prequalification process
- Review annual 1099 reports
- Ensure that there is a collaborative approach between accounting, project management and estimating group for the health and profitability of projects
- Continue to develop and streamline financial reporting for faster and pointed analysis
Education, Experience + Other Requirements
- Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 5 years of position related experience;
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of processes and procedures and resolution of standard and non-standard issues;
- Advanced written and oral communications skills to present information in a concise and articulate manner;
- Strong leadership abilities, with the ability to coordinate work on multiple facets of a project;
- Proficient computer skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and automated accounting / ERP systems;
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and GAAP;
- CPA license preferred but not required
- Construction Industry experience preferred
