Thanks to all the M&S employees and their families who came out Saturday for a beach clean-up at Seal Beach. We joined dozens of other volunteers and collected two dumpsters full of a trash, one small piece of junk at a time. We were surprised at some of the items retrieved, including a football, basketball, tennis ball and ping-pong ball, not to mention a couch cushion and numerous plastic bottles and aluminum cans. The most common material collected was Styrofoam in both large chunks and minuscule bits. One group of volunteers even hauled out a mattress and box springs from the jetty. If you’d like to participate, beach clean-ups occur the third Saturday of every month at Seal Beach, with opportunities at all other local beaches nearly every weekend.
