Millie and Severson has been a part of building California since our founding in 1945. That has meant that we have been involved in nearly every community in Southern California. And with our recent expansion to Northern California, we expect the same to happen there. We believe in the true value of giving back to our communities and do so as a company and as individuals. We have supported some causes for many years and some we’ve just begun. But one thing remains the same – we will always care about our communities and will give freely to make them better for everyone. Tour of Long Beach

22 Millie and Severson employees and their families are participating in the Tour of Long Beach on May 12, 2018. The team is riding to support pediatric cancer research at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach with a goal of raising $3,000.

Toys for Tots

Millie and Severson has been a proud supporter of Toys for Tots for the last three years. The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Our toy donations are turned over to the Naval Station in Seal Beach.

ACE Mentor Program

Scott Hayes, Millie and Severson’s Chief Estimator, has been participating with the ACE Mentor program for 3 years. Scott commits at least 2 hours each week to mentor young students and teach them about the rewards of a career in architecture, construction and engineering.

Save Our Beach

Millie and Severson is a strong supporter of Save Our Beach and regularly participates in beach cleanups in nearby Seal Beach. At our most recent outing on September 16, 2017, we joined hundreds of other volunteers as part of California Coastal Cleanup Day and collected trash and recyclables. Team M&S Hits the Road to Fight HIV/AIDS

Also in its second year, Millie and Severson is proud to sponsor an AIDS Lifecycle team that directly supports the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in their efforts for AIDS/HIV treatment and awareness. This effort, spearheaded by M&S BIM Manager Sean McMahon, was first launched in September 2015. Check out the team’s page for updates and photos along the trail.

Millie and Severson Volunteer Day to help the Community of Compton and its California Prep Academy

We built four picnic tables, a storage shed and constructed outdoor chalkboard walls. Other projects included repairing a fence, transforming outdoor furniture with whimsical colors and all kinds of hauling, organizing and cleaning. There was an army of volunteers, not only from Millie and Severson, but also from nearby schools and Saddleback Church. Led by Project Manager Michael Swanberg the Millie and Severson team accomplished every project we set out to do. Special thanks to Matt Stallings and Danny Ronquillo who put in extra effort before and after the day’s activities. Congratulations on a job well done!

Precious Life Shelter

Millie and Severson is delighted to support local charity Precious Life Shelter. The goal of the shelter is for each woman to regain stability and become self-reliant. To that end, construction recently wrapped up on the beautiful new residences on Cherry Street, with a Ribbon Cutting and dedication held March 27, 2018. The new property will offer permanent housing for qualified graduates and their children. To learn more about Precious Life Shelter, visit them here.

Green Team

Our Green Team started in 2014 and has accomplished many initiatives, leading to the elimination of single use coffee cups, plates and utensils; reducing paper use through more digital efforts; supporting LEED accreditation with financial incentives; and planting drought-tolerant vegetation in our garden. The team recently celebrated Earth Day with a company picnic that featured our newly-planted herb garden, a raffle to benefit Precious Life Shelter with a sustainable gift, and plenty of free plants and herbs for every staff member who wants to start their own garden at home.

Millie and Severson is proud to support a variety of organizations that are important to our employees and our clients. Each year we give generously to causes ranging from the Boys & Girls Club to City of Hope to Habitat for Humanity through cash contributions.

Concerned Family Kitchen

Millie and Severson was proud to be a part of the team who undertook the remodeling of The Concerned Family kitchen which provides hot food and outreach to homeless and low-income community members of the Mead Valley area. The remodel was wholly funded by donations of both funds and labor from Trammell Crow Company and its partners, including Millie and Severson, consultants and suppliers. The remodel delivered a new commercial kitchen which will allow TCF to expand its services to benefit the Mead Valley Community. Hot food can now be prepared using modern commercial level equipment under hygienic and safe conditions. In the long term, the kitchen will also serve as a training ground for people coming out of incarceration who have no skills with which to get gainful employment. The Concerned Family envisions training such a population to receive the Food handler certification so that they can get basic jobs in local restaurants as a stepping-stone to increased self- sufficiency. The Concerned Family organization has seen a significant increase in the number of meals provided to the community from approximately 3,000 /month to 5,000 /month since the advent of COVID-19. Now that the commercial kitchen is operational, The Concerned Family is projecting the possibility of feeding over 300 people/day (9,000/month). Over 20 organizations donated their time and/or materials for this project.

TEAM: The following organizations were involved in The Concerned Family Kitchen upgrade:
WareMalcomb, Ampco, Citadel EHS, Inland Concrete Constructors, Johnson Plumbing, Key Air, Berg Electric, Advantage Framing, S&H Cabinets, Sheward & Sons, McLaren Simpson, GPS, Ryanco Protective Coatings, Best Buy Restaurant Equipment, Saddleback Roofing, RW Doors, Sureshine Cleaning Services, Stumbaugh, Fullerton Glass, Mobile Fire, Nevell Group Inc., KPFF, TK1SC, Millie and Severson, and Trammell Crow Company.

Operation Christmas Child

For the fourth year, Millie and Severson employees take part in Operation Christmas Child, a gift drive to provide Christmas cheer to less fortunate children outside the United States. Boxes are provided for employees to fill up with toys, clothes and essentials, giving every child the thrill of having a gift on Christmas day. The program, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, has reached more than 135 million children all across the globe and reminds us all of the joy of giving back.
