The Commons features open exhibition kitchen areas, seating for nearly 500, a state-of-the art pizza oven and a rotisserie oven. The Commons also offers office private dining rooms, two dining patios, supporting kitchen and storage spaces, along with office space and locker rooms for the 50 employees who prepare meals and serve more than 1,600 diners each day.
The building was built to meet LEED Silver certification and is the second facility at Harvey Mudd College certified under the LEED system, following the Sontag Residence Hall, also completed by Millie and Severson.
